Temporary Sign & Banner Permits
Temporary Signs - Businesses
Properties in nonresidential areas may erect temporary signs following approval by the Zoning & Planning Administrator and compliance with the following standards:
- Submission of a Temporary Sign Permit application.
- Only one exterior temporary sign per applicant is permitted.
- Cannot be illuminated.
- Cannot be placed in the right-of-way.
- Cannot exceed 32 square feet in size.
- A business can only display a sandwich board or a temporary sign at any one time.
- Temporary window signs posted on the interior side of a window cumulatively occupying less than 50% of the window area are permitted.
- Permits shall expire 15 days after their issuance (grand opening signs shall expire after 30 days).
- Cap of 4 nonconsecutive temporary sign permits over a one-year period.
Temporary Signs - Church/Civic Groups
Church or civic group function signs are permitted only on the premises where the function will be held and contingent on the following standards:
- Submission of a Church/Civic Group Sign Permit application.
- Only 2 temporary signs are permitted at once.
- One of the two signs may be a banner sign only to be hung on the facade of the building. The banner may only represent a function directly sponsored by the church or civic group.
- Signs shall reflect aesthetic compatibility with adjacent uses, be constructed of a suitable material, and shall not be erected more than 3 weeks before the event.
- Signs shall be removed within 24 hours following the event.
- Signs must be placed on private property and not in the Village right-of-way.
Off premises permits
- Organizations are limited to 6 off-premises signs for each event (cannot place more than 1 per lot).
- Certification from owner of property that consent has been given to place sign(s).
- Shall not be displayed more than 21 days prior to nor 3 days after the event.
- Shall not exceed 4 square feet in area, unless a banner.
Banner Permits
The banner poles in Village Park (near the corner of Juneau Blvd and Legion Dr) are for the display of Village information. Only banners noting events taking place on Village of Elm Grove property may be displayed. To submit an application for a Banner Permit, please note the following standards:
