Responsibilities
The Office of the Village Clerk is responsible for the Board of Review. Members of the Board of Review include the Village President, Village Trustees, and the Village Clerk. The Board of Review meets annually during the 30-day period beginning on the second Monday of May.
The Village Assessor sends all property owners the assessment value for the current year in April or May. The Village Assessor then holds open book, which is a period of time when a property owner can talk to the assessor about the current assessment. If the property owner is not satisfied with the assessment they can object to the valuation during the Board of Review.
Any objections should first be made in writing and filed with the Village Clerk prior to the public hearings of the board. As the property owner you will be asked to attend a public hearing to present your objection to the valuation and evidence to support your claim. The board will determine from this evidence if the assessor’s valuation is correct. You will be notified in writing if the assessment will be adjusted.
If you have any questions regarding the Board of Review process, please contact the Village Clerk at (262) 782-6700.
