Alterations
Before You Apply
It is encouraged that you contact the Zoning & Planning Department while planning your project to confirm compliance with basic zoning requirements and to discuss the review and approval process.
Exterior Alterations
Review by the Building Board is required for work where a minor exterior change(s) does not extend an existing building beyond its current footprint. Examples of exterior alterations include window or exterior door replacements, deck replacement, siding or exterior material changes, new architectural features, adding/modifying shutters, trim, railings, new exterior lighting, etc.
The Board meets twice per month (1st and 3rd Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. To get placed on agenda, all materials must be submitted digitally to the Zoning and Planning Administrator at least 2 weeks in advance of the meeting. Once deemed complete by the Zoning and Planning Administrator, physical copies must be provided at least one week before the meeting.
The submittal requirements for an exterior alteration are listed below. A more comprehensive list of Building Alteration requirements may be found at the hyperlink.
Interior Alterations
A building permit and relevant additional permits must be filed for interior work including, but not limited to kitchen, bathroom and lower-level remodels/updates, and room size changes. To get more specific, the following type of work requires a permit (again, not comprehensive):

- Structural beam or column installation/removal
- Modifying stairways
- Interior demolition
- Attic, basement, or garage conversions to habitable space
- Egress improvements

- HVAC installation or replacement
- Ductwork changes
- New electrical circuits, panel upgrades, rewiring
