Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Summer 2022 Teen Volunteer Opportunities at the Elm Grove Library

Summer is a great time to volunteer at the library! Here are your options this year:

1. Teen Book Reviews. Here’s how it will work:

  • Sign up as a teen volunteer with Sue Daniels, Youth Services Librarian. Applications will be accepted until June 30.
  • Read a book from the Elm Grove Library that is appropriate for teens.
  • Write a review of the book. The review must be at least one paragraph long with complete sentences, story description and some evaluation. When your volunteer application is approved to write reviews, you will receive more details about what is required.
  • Sign up for the summer reading program at elmgrovelibrary.beanstack.org to publish your reviews. Some reviews may also be printed in the Elm Grove News-Independent when space permits.
  • What will you get? For every book you review by August 13, you will earn 2 hours of volunteer time. You may earn a maximum of 10 hours of volunteer time this summer. In August, you will receive a letter that documents your time.

2. Set-up/Take-down for Thursday Programs. Only a few teens are needed for each date.  Programs will be on Thursday mornings at 10:30.  Dates:  June 16, June 30, July 7, July 21, August 4, August 11.  Volunteers should be available 10:00-11:30 so they can help with both set-up and take down. Applications for program volunteers will be accepted until June 30 or until all spots are filled.  Fill out the application below and include the specific dates when you can help.  You will be notified of the dates you are assigned.

3. Help run the Survival Island Program on Wednesday, July 27, 1:30-3:00 pm.  Kids ages 8-12 will participate in  island survival activities set up at various stations. Teen volunteers will run the stations, assist participants, set up, clean up, etc... Volunteers are needed 12:30-3:30. Because of the ages of participants, preference will be given to teens 13 and up for this program.

Fill out the application online or pick up a copy at the Library Reference Desk and return paper form to Sue Daniels at the Elm Grove Library.
