The 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic, World War I and Wilson

Wednesday, May 26, 2021

The year is 1918. Thousands of United States troops are involved in World War I and millions will die. Stateside, an additional war is forming. It is called “influenza” and it will take millions more lives. President Woodrow Wilson must make a choice: to quarantine the troops as the war rages on, or to send the troops over to win the war and hope for the best. In this program, historian Jim Gibbons takes you on a roller-coaster ride through the 1910s, including the 1918 Spanish Flu Pandemic and World War I, describing the twists, turns, fear, mourning, and joy of a decade that paved the way for the excitement of the Roaring '20s. NOTE: This program will be held just outside the library on the west side of the building. Please bring your own chairs, as they will not be provided. Attendees are encouraged to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing. Free to attend. No registration needed.
